SMS Notifications

Last updated: April 30, 2026

This page describes the SMS messaging program operated by Benton Technology for the TrackMyRun mobile application. We publish it so prospective users, recipients, and Twilio's compliance reviewers can understand exactly what messages are sent, who receives them, and how to stop them.

How recipients are added (opt-in flow)

Recipients are not added via this website. They are added inside the TrackMyRun iPhone app by an existing, authenticated, paying subscriber (the "runner"), through the following flow.

The Run Notifications screen showing the disclosure: 'Up to 2 contacts will receive a text message from TrackMyRun each time you start a run, with a link to your live dashboard. By adding a contact, you confirm you have their permission to receive these messages. Recipients can reply STOP to opt out. Standard message and data rates may apply.'
Step 1. The Run Notifications screen displays the full disclosure: program description, consent attestation requirement, opt-out keyword, and the standard rates notice.
A 'Confirm Permission' dialog reading 'I confirm Paige Benton has given me permission to receive run-start texts from TrackMyRun.' with Cancel and Add Contact buttons.
Step 2. Before any contact is saved, the subscriber must explicitly confirm — by name — that they have the recipient's permission. The contact is not added if the subscriber taps Cancel.
The Run Notifications screen with one contact added: 'Paige Benton' with a redacted phone number, and a delete (trash) icon next to the contact.
Step 3. The contact appears in the list. The subscriber can remove the contact instantly with the trash icon at any time. (Phone number redacted in this screenshot for the recipient's privacy.)
  1. The runner opens the iPhone app and navigates to Run Notifications (Step 1).
  2. The screen shows a complete disclosure including the consent requirement, STOP opt-out, and the "standard message and data rates may apply" notice.
  3. The runner taps Add Contact and either picks a person from their iPhone Contacts or types a phone number and name manually.
  4. Before saving, the runner sees a Confirm Permission dialog naming the contact (Step 2). The contact is added only after the runner explicitly confirms.
  5. By confirming, the runner attests — per the in-app disclosure and our Terms of Service — that they have the recipient's prior permission to send them run-start text messages.
  6. The runner can remove any contact at any time from the same screen (Step 3).
Why we use a runner-mediated opt-in. The recipients of these texts are people the runner already communicates with directly — typically a spouse, parent, or close friend. The runner is in the best position to obtain consent in person or via their existing relationship. We deliberately limit this to two contacts and a single transactional message type to minimize unsolicited messaging.

Sample message

This is the exact text recipients receive when a run begins:

From: TrackMyRun Jacob just started a run! Follow along live: https://run.bentontechnology.net/run/jacob?v=…

The message contains the runner's display name and a link to the runner's live dashboard. No promotional content, no advertising, no links other than the runner's dashboard URL.

Opting out

Recipients can stop receiving messages at any time, in two ways:

Reply HELP at any time and you will receive a short reply directing you to [email protected] and to this page.

Privacy of phone numbers

Phone numbers added as notification contacts are used only to deliver run-start text messages via Twilio. We do not sell, lease, share, or transfer phone numbers — or any mobile opt-in data — to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers are deleted from our systems when the runner removes the contact or deletes their account.

For the complete data-handling description, see our Privacy Policy.
